Background
Loewen
Gold was first introduced only about 5 years ago and is produced
through one of our favorite suppliers. This clever bubbly is themed
around providing you with the same visual effect as the bubbles
provide to your tastebuds by putting 22 karat gold leaf into
suspension in the sparkling.
The tiny flecks of gold create a festive picture for you and
are really neat when you have a special toast. The sparkling is
produced in California and general reaction has been extremely high
as to quality of the drinking experience as well.
In Europe, gold has been used for years as a treatment for arthritis
and is considered a perfect way to put vitality back into your
libido.
(The FDA have approved use of gold leaf in this product and consider
it having no health impact on consumers.)
Food Parings
Champagne as an overall category begins with the
assumption of a celebration and that some one will propose a toast.
It's proposed uses definitely do not stop there!
Bring on the Champagne the next time you serve smoked salmon with
all the sides...minced onion, capers, ground horseradish, minced
hardboiled egg, etc. Also, its practically a given when you bring
out caviar. Some additional sides include sushi (an outstanding
combination), oysters on the half shell, Dim Sum, quail's eggs,
Guacamole, prawns & shrimp, smoked trout, scallops, abalone and
brunch fare.
Champagne begs you to be daring in your food choices and is often
motivated as much by a mood as by a menu!
Cellar Hints
Keep your sparkling wines in the coolest part of your cellar and
don't get terribly ambitious as to length of ageing. We will
generally use whatever Champagne we cellar in 5 years or less.
