Description/Palate
Nahe wines offer a mixture of both
Mosel character and Rhine. This medium fruity late harvest Spätlese
is filled full of ripe green apples with just a hint of honey &
peach.
Background
The Nahe region of
Germany historically bottled its wines in cobalt blue bottles
produced locally where the soil conditions produced the color
naturally at the local glassworks. By tradition, only Nahe wines
should be presented in the “Blue Bottle.” Kreuznacher Weinhaus
produces solid, well made German wines in a rich style that is very
attractive to the American market.
Food Parings
We have used this
wine as a dessert or cocktail wine with bread, cheese and fruit and
pared it well with grilled German wurst (sausages) and all kinds of
pork dishes. The sweetness of the wine compliments pork really well.
This would also be a great wine served with your richer seafood and
shellfish such as scallops, crab, lobster or monkfish.
Cellar Hints
Keep it cool (55-65 degrees F).
These wines are made
to be enjoyed now but do offer some interesting subtle changes with
a few years of proper cellaring. I prefer the brilliance of enjoying
these wines young, however.
