Description/Palate
Ripe very bright red fruit with subtle hints
of spice &
cinnamon. Flavors of strawberry and raspberry with
medium to light tannin and balanced fruitiness.
Background
Ausbruch has long
been the darling of sweet reds
produced in Hungary and has historical roots all the way
back to
the Hapsburg Dynasty in that country. The word
literally means “bursting out” in so far as the grapes are
so ripe
they often split and begin to dry out. This
intensifies the flavor components and adds significantly to the
richness and complexity of the wine. Weinhaus
Schloss
Koblenz has been crafting these wonderful
wines
from Hungary for over 40 years and bring all of the
modern
and traditional techniques of great German
winemaking to the process.
Food Parings
These powerful late-harvest reds are
perfect served with medium to strong cheeses, spicier foods
such as curry or hot oriental fare
and combine really well with BBQ’d pork. Many have found the wine a
great “glass in the evening” choice to reap the health benefits of
red wine when they don’t enjoy dryer styled reds. Ausbruch was a
traditional health tonic
required to be drank by the royals
of the Hapsburg house.
Cellar Hints
Keep it cool (55-65 degrees F).
Under proper conditions
this wine will age well for 15 years
or more. It is
extremely drinkable now and much
appreciated for its
flamboyant style while still young.
