Description/Palate
This is a well
made, well balanced late harvest Spätlese with classic Mosel
characteristics of fresh acidity, ripe green apples and a clean,
fresh finish.
This is one of
those consistently produced wines that you can pretty much count on
even before that first taste and at a very fair price.
Background
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer is
Germany's fifth largest wine growing region. Predominantly planted
with RIESLING. The river banks rise so sharply that the vineyards
carpeting these slopes are among the steepest in the world.
Piesport is certainly one of the most famous wine villages in
Germany, producing outstanding wines in the well known "Mosel"
style.
The grapes for this wine were grown in slate soil, which is typical
for the Mosel area and provides a unique benefit. The slate soil
store the heat of the sun during the day time and gives it back to
the vines at night and by doing so stimulates the grape growth in a
natural way. The harmonious climate, warm summers and mild winters
are typical for this growing area.
Schloss Zell is a modern facility producing very good wines at very
affordable prices.
Food Parings
