Description
The high tones and tickly acidity pare with fresh succulent blossoms
and penetrating Riesling flavors. Green apples at the height of
ripeness and a finish that lingers with profound complexity.
Robert Parker Jr.’s
Wine Advocate
awarded this one a 90 rating and that does not happen very often.
Wine Spectator gave it a 92.
This spaetlese is like a beautiful stallion that is yet to be
tamed. Terry Theise remarked that after tasting this wine all he
could do was laugh with disbelief and wonder.
Origin
Helmut Dönnhoff likes, as he puts it, to “speak through the
flowers”, to use metaphor and image. His gift goes beyond producing
magnificent wines, his statement is as much artistic, a reflection
of some aspect of life through his remarkable wines.
Helmut very well may be the finest producer of wines in the Nahe
region and critics agree. There are those who regard his wines with
almost religious awe.
With all of this said...Helmut is actually very bashful when
complimented on his wines.
Food
Parings
IGreat late harvest Riesling is perfect by
itself or with appetizers, particularly fruit and cheeses. This wine
would compliment sausage very well.
