Description
This vintage produced lower quantities of juice but the winemaker
was very pleased with quality overall. The color of this fine Shiraz
has full depth crimson with purple hues. The bouquet has excellent
fruit levels with pronounced violets, dark berries and black pepper.
When you taste this wine you will note rich, ripe blackberries,
blood-plum and spice with a full, fleshy mid-palate. Outstanding
depth of fruit flavor supported by subtle coffee-like oak notes and
fine velvety tannins.
This wine was made from carefully
selected individual vineyard sites that produced high concentration
extract for maximum varietal character. In other words...great juice
to make great wine!
Origin
In 1846 a German immigrant, Johann Gramp, purchased land along
Jacob’s Creek for the expressed purpose of growing grapes in the
Barossa Valley as the first commercial winery in that region.
This fine operation continued to grow and develop, becoming
Australia’s most successful wine enterprise from a financial and
critical standpoint. Awards for the winery and this selection are
extensive. Wine & Spirits Magazine named them 2003’s International
Value Winery of the Year.
Food Parings
A big red that will support substantial food selections. Shiraz is
always terrific with grilled meats and this one would do so very
well. I’ve had it with lamb, grilled sirloin tips and duck with
great satisfaction.
