Description
This delightful Australian red blend is made from 51% Grenache and
49% Shiraz. It has a vibrant medium red color with a fresh, juicy
raspberry bouquet along with hints of ripe cherry, rose petals,
white pepper and lively spice. The flavor is big and round with
layers of concentrated fruit, mostly raspberry and cherry. You’ll
also notice some dried prune in the finish.
Careful hand processing of this wine has helped it retain much of
its fruit character and a 2nd malolactic fermentation brings out
soft, supple tannins which make the wine very approachable. The wine
is blended, clarified and bottled as soon as possible after the
harvest to further emphasize the fruit and not wood in its flavors.
Origin
In 1846 a German immigrant, Johann Gramp, purchased land along
Jacob’s Creek for the expressed purpose of growing grapes in the
Barossa Valley as the first commercial winery in that region.
This fine operation continued to grow and develop, becoming
Australia’s most successful wine enterprise from a financial and
critical standpoint. Awards for the winery and this selection are
extensive. Wine & Spirits Magazine named them 2003’s International
Value Winery of the Year.
Food Parings
This wine would be perfect with grilled leg of lamb, a juicy
porterhouse steak or wild venison medallions. Also pares very well
with medium to full bodied cheeses.
