Description
The Stump Jump is a great example of blending two backbone varieties
of McLaren Vale, Grenache and Shiraz. Both grapes originated out of
the Rhone Valley in France over 100 years ago and have adapted
beautifully to Australia. Once picked, the fruit is gently crushed
in the ’Demoisy’ open mouthed, rubber toothed crusher and pumped
into submerged cap open fermenters. Following fermentation, the wine
grapes are gently pressed by a 19th century “Coq” and “Bromley &
Tregoning” basket presses prior to oak maturation. This is a rich,
soft and flavoursome red in the traditional McLaren Vale style.
Mulberry and plum flavours from the Grenache combine with the
blackberry, spice and white pepper of the Shiraz. Received a “88”
from The Wine Spectator
Origin
The Southern Vales district starts almost in the southern outskirts
of Adelaide in southwestern Australia. This is the area renowned as
the home of Australia’s famous Grange Hermitage and a host of other
magnificent red wines. D’Arenberg is nestled into the foothills of
the Mount Lofty range. This provides great drainage and intense
afternoon sun which results in great fruit concentration and
powerful red wine styling.
Food Parings
This one would be a great choice with full flavored cheeses, osso
bucco, roast beef or a host of red sauce/pasta dishes. The earthy
nature of the wine would also support sautéed mushrooms or a complex
casserole.
